Okay, you guys, I’m super psyched about this one.

Drum roll please!

Cue the trumpets!

The messengers of the Immortals have notified me that my short story, Out of the Fire, will be published in Of Fae and Fate, a forgotten fairy tale anthology from Immortal Works scheduled to come out October 22, 2019.

Out of the Fire is an adaptation of the fairy tale Through the Fire, first published in 1877 in a collection called On a Pincushion and Other Fairy Tales by Mary de Morgan. I first encountered the tale in an abridged form in Hilda Boswell’s Treasury of Children’s Stories, which was one of my favorite books as a child.

The original story is set in Victorian London, but I've chosen to set my retelling in the same universe as my novel, Dragon Ascending, long before the events of the novel in a time before the Breaking when the fae still walked the land and made bridges to travel between worlds.

This is the story of a forbidden love between the fire fae princess and the prince of the water fae—and the crippled mortal boy who stands between.

I can’t wait to share it with you!
